Anger-Where is it heading?
After eight years in private practice of conducting anger management sessions, I have just passed 1000 one on one, face to face clients. The big change over the last 8 years is the number of clients who now present with explosive anger, which is where anger goes up quickly, comes down quickly, but could happen with a very small trigger. The increase is from about 15% of clients in 2010 to about 50% in 2018. The reason for the increase is not fully known, but people are now more impatient in this age of instant answers and they expect their needs to be met. While young people in the 15-24 age group are more likely to show explosive anger, the increase is across all age groups. Anger is normally due to a lack of respect and people are not putting up with being disrespected, with some of those are showing explosive anger, rather than assertiveness. I currently have 40 active clients, of which 12 (30%) are women, in 2010 if I randomly select blocks of 40 clients, then 8 (20%) on average, were women.
